Logitech MX Master 2S: The Versatile Virtuoso of Mice

I have used many mice over the past 2 years, desperately questing to find the Goldilocks of mice.

The Zowie EC1 was nearly there, it’s fatal flaw was the noisy mousewheel that would grind on my subconcious.

The Logitech G Pro Wireless did well for simplicity but, alas, sized too small for my hands.

The Logitech G502 X Plus Lightspeed was a handful to pronounce and fit well in the hand, but the flaw came again, in the mousewheel, switching between super clicky or no ratcheting at all - two extremes that were too extreme for me.

The Razer Basilisk Pro sort of fit the bill but, as with any Razer device, comes with some of the worst software imaginable. I settled with it, for the time being, but let me tell you of an alternative.

Some tools do not demand attention. They simply exist, quietly elevating your experience without fanfare or excess. The Logitech MX Master 2S is one such tool — an all-rounder that may master a particular trade, but is a jack across many.

Effortless Versatility

At the heart of its appeal lies its seamless multi-device connectivity. A press of a button, and the mouse flits effortlessly between three machines, a silent bridge connecting workflows. No fuss, no interruptions — just the magic of fluid transitions. Whether you are hopping between a laptop, desktop, or tablet, the MX Master 2S thrives on adaptability, with little regard for the operating system. It does this without needing to install any driver software but the software comes in handy, further elaborating on the capabilities of the mouse by allowing you to drag and drop files between machines, should you wish to.

Enduring Simplicity

In an era where RGB lights infect our vision with rainbow excess, the MX Master 2S remains restrained, unburdened by LEDs. This focus on function rewards the user with remarkable battery life. You may forget the last time you charged it, and that, in itself, speaks volumes. It is dependable, persistent, and quietly efficient.

Comfort in the Hand

Shape matters. The ergonomic design of the MX Master 2S cradles the hand, inviting long sessions of use without strain. It does not scream its comfort through flashy labels; it simply fits — a form factor refined for natural movement and control. Be you claw, palm, or fingertip, the mouse seems to adapt to what you need. This hold up especially well when one spends long hours at the desk, reducing strain upon the hand and wrist.

A Familiar Legacy

Though time has brought its successor, the differences are modest. The shift from micro-USB to USB-C in the latest version marks the most notable evolution, to me. Yet for those who know the MX Master 2S, this change hardly feels like a beckoning to upgrade.

A Master of Balance

The MX Master 2S is a rare breed — a mouse that is not the best at any one thing, but great at everything. It transcends categories: work, browsing, gaming, and design. Its excellence lies not in hyper-specialisation but in its ability to deliver enough — enough precision, enough comfort, enough reliability — across all tasks.

In a world obsessed with extremes, the MX Master 2S is a balanced maestro, content to orchestrate the mundane and the extraordinary alike. A quiet companion, steadfast and versatile.

Verdict: For those who value comfort, versatility, and quiet brilliance over ostentatious excess, the Logitech MX Master 2S remains a superb choice, even in the shadow of its successor.
