Introduction

Fellow gamers!

I was expecting a massive influx of games this December but was sadly disappointed. That’s not to say there aren’t some good things coming, let’s take a look at what we can expect to grace our favourite game stores this coming December.

Release Schedule

Delta Force

Delta Force Banner

Delta Force made my list purely because I have fond memories of it from back in the day. We played endless hours of it in gaming cafes, long before the days of Counter Strike and Action Quake.

I’m not sure what to make of this new iteration, it seems to mix in science fiction with the gritty realism I was expecting, and that leaves me feeling a little wary. It’s also going to be free, which should bring feelings of joy, but instead brings feelings of apprehension as we wait to see what kind of free-to-play model they’ve put in the game.

Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 Banner

Deja Vu? No, originally set to have it’s early access go live in November already, it ended up being postponed until December. I don’t have much to add from last time, though there were rumours that only those that have spent a certain amount of money in Path of Exile’s cash shop will gain access to the sequel’s early access, but I was unable to find any concrete announcements to support this, only rumours and let’s hope it stays that way.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Banner

If you say Indiana Jones to me, I think Harrison Ford. If you say Indiana Jones Game, I think LucasArts. I have fond memories of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - a game you can pick up and play on Steam by the way.

The Great Circle has been developed by MachineGames - the same studio that worked on Wolfenstein: The Old Blood and The New Order, so they have some laurels on their wreath. In Golden Circle you set out to uncover one of history’s greatest mysteries in a first-person, single player, adventure - another break from the old point-and-click adventure games.

I am honestly looking forward to this, MachineGames have focused more on stealth-like gameplay which is exactly what Indie is about, in my opinion. It also doesn’t hurt that it’ll be a day 1 gamepass release.

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered Banner

Remastering Soul Reaver is something I honestly didn’t think would ever happen. I loved the Soul Reaver games as a kid and spent many weaving between the living world and the twisted world of the dead to solve puzzles.

Asypr, the studio behind it, also brought us the remasters of Tomb Raider 1 through 3 and that was received really well, and that gives me hope that they’ll do a faithful remaster of Soul Reavers 1 and 2 as well.

I might be biased but I’ll definitely be grabbing this one.

Slipgate

Slipgate Banner

Slipgate, a new first-person shooted from Madness Studio, which happens to also be their first game, has a great look to it. I wouldn’t call it a boomer shooter, it’s more a shooter that you’d expect to have seen after the boomer shooter period, the early Half-Life 1, Quake, Unreal Tournament, and Sin days. A millenial shooter? That doesn’t sound right.

If you’re looking for a frantic, action-packed, first-person-shooter this might be right for you. There is a demo available on Steam if you wanted to give it a try.

Alien: Rogue Incursion

Alien: Rogue Incursion Banner

Alien: Rogue Incursion piqued my interest as I have been playing through Alien: Isolation recently (Follow along here, if you’re keen: YouTube Playlist). Given the success of Alien: Isolation, I thought it might even follow in it’s footsteps but I was wrong and that should come as no surprise as we have an Alien Isolation sequel in the works.

Rogue Incursion is a single-player, action-horror, VR game. I know you can play Isolation in VR but this looks to be a different experience with a mix of stealth and action, a combination which I’m sure will raise some hairs in VR.

The Midnight Crimes

The Midnight Crimes Banner

Last comes The Midnight Crimes - a point-and-click detective adventure game. DeadlyCrow Games has a couple of horror-puzzle games under their belt, so this is right in their wheelhouse.

I love the art style and the setting for the game and will definitely keep an eye on it. There’s a demo available on Steam so why not give it a bash?

Conclusion

That’s it!? I was expecting a slightly more full December but in all honesty we’ve seen a busy year of game releases, many of which I’m still slowly playing through so we shouldn’t complain.

As usual, this is not an exhaustive list, just games that stood out to me.
